Introduction
The Unwind Shorts are designed for walking well and truly relaxing.
They're the pair to reach for when you want your legs a little lighter
on mountain walks in the warmer seasons.
Trails on hot days, paths along mountain streams, time spent lounging at camp—
they're made to keep you comfortable right up to when you slip into your sleeping bag.
The name "Unwind" means to relax.
The longer you walk, the more a little room in your clothing helps. Ease of leg movement, and comfort when you sit down. We aimed for a balance that gives up neither.
We built in the room you need around the hips and thighs while keeping a silhouette that never looks sloppy.
For the fabric, we focused on a thickness and suppleness that leans too far toward neither ease of movement while hiking nor comfort while sitting still at camp or in a hut.
It resists clamminess even when you sweat, and doesn't chill you too much in the wind. We searched for a balance you can keep wearing all day long.
Today might be a day of long walking, or a day of slowly brewing coffee at camp.
Some days you'll head straight to a hot spring or an inn after coming down off the mountain.
Whatever the day, these are hiking shorts that let you think, "Just put these on and you'll be fine."
Design
A simple, naturally tapered, easygoing silhouette.
Neither too wide nor too slim. We aimed for a balance that feels "just right" both in the mountains and around town. The lines look clean, while the room needed to relax is properly kept.
The pockets are deliberately kept to a minimum.
Two side pockets on the hips that you can quickly slip your hands into, plus a single zippered pocket on the left side.
This zippered pocket holds the bare minimum you want to keep on your lower body, such as a smartphone or wallet. It's a pocket layout meant to keep you light without over-packing.
In keeping with this pant's "unwind" concept, we paid close attention to the waist construction, too.
Wanting you to be able to wear them without stress even while sleeping, we chose an ultra-soft elastic for the waistband—an ultralight, thin, soft flat elastic.
Keeping the presence of the elastic as unnoticeable as possible, yet holding the waist firmly while you move: we chose an elastic that satisfies these opposing demands.
Rather than squeezing, it feels like it gently rests against you, minimizing any discomfort around the waist whether you're sitting, walking, or inside your sleeping bag.
An internal drawstring is also built in, so tie it off on the inside when you want a secure fit.
Material
The Unwind Pants use a 100% polyester fabric made with Toray's stretch yarn Primeflex®.
It's a functional material with 2-way stretch that gives moderately in both directions, plus a water-repellent finish.
Primeflex®'s greatest strength is "a natural way of stretching and a solid return." Rather than stretch that has to be forced, it follows just as much as you need for the movements of hiking—crouching, stepping over, dropping your hips to get in and out of a tent.
Even when you hold a knees-bent posture for a long time, the fabric resists going slack and stretched out, so the silhouette holds up even over long hours of wear.
The 100% polyester fabric dries quickly even when it takes on sweat or moisture, with a dry, "sarari" touch that doesn't cling to the skin.
Even after you've sweated while on the move, by the time you catch your breath at camp the fabric has dried off, leaving little of that cold, clammy feel. It's a quick-drying quality designed for keeping them on all day long.
The surface is also treated with a water-repellent finish that sheds light rain and morning dew.
When walking to camp in a drizzle, or sitting on a wet bench or rock, it helps keep you from getting soaked through right away. It's not a substitute for proper rain pants, but it's a finish that adds just the right peace of mind, sparing you an extra change of clothes.

・Turn the product inside out, place it in a laundry net, and wash it on its own.
