Background\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003e For this T-shirt product, we first created samples using merino wool jersey fabric from three different companies, and then repeatedly tested their performance by prototyping, wearing, and washing them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_heading\"\u003e 2. Issues with the initial sample \u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cimg class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_image\" src=\"https:\/\/base-ec2.akamaized.net\/apps\/item_layout\/images\/tmp\/img_2d3182569954ec1ebee71d3e6eedd81a.jpg\" alt=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003e Although all the manufacturers advertised their products as \"washable wool,\" in reality, I found that the wool had shrunk by more than one size and the fabric had become distorted, so the quality was not up to my expectations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_heading\"\u003e 3. Examining the benefits of synthetic fiber blends\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003eTo compensate for the weaknesses of wool products, such as shrinkage and low durability, there are many merino wool products on the market that are blended with nylon or polyester. This certainly reduces shrinkage after washing and has the advantage of being easy to handle on a daily basis.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_heading\"\u003e 4. Personal experience wearing the product\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003e I myself have worn synthetic blend merino T-shirts for a long time, but once the nylon parts started to deteriorate, I could no longer continue wearing them comfortably until the end. I also felt that they couldn't compete with 100% merino products when it came to the inherent high functionality of merino wool, such as odor resistance and heat retention. While I have no intention of rejecting synthetic blends, I strongly felt that I wanted to cherish the texture, functionality, and the \"atmosphere that the material itself brings.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_heading\"\u003e 5. Final material selection\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003eThe result was \"REDA ACTIVE,\" a high-performance material developed by the Italian company RED A, which has more than 150 years of experience and technology.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e After wearing and washing it repeatedly for six months, I found that it was more comfortable to wear than any other fabric I had tried. It held its shape well and retained all of the inherent warmth, breathability, and antibacterial properties of merino wool.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_heading\"\u003e Features\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003e 1. Made with New Zealand Merino\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eThe use of New Zealand Merino wool is proof that the wool is \"non-mulesing wool.\" \"Mulesing\" refers to the removal of the skin and flesh from the rump of a lamb to prevent the sheep from becoming infested with maggots. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cimg class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_image\" src=\"https:\/\/base-ec2.akamaized.net\/apps\/item_layout\/images\/tmp\/img_ee56e7fd51005bf3729157a0f493ae26.jpg\" alt=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003e Merino sheep have been bred to produce as much wool as possible, and because they have a large skin surface and deep wrinkles, urine and feces tend to accumulate in the wrinkles around the buttocks and genitals, making it easy for maggots to breed. In the worst cases, the maggots can eat away at the skin and flesh, leading to death.\u003cbr\u003e One way to prevent this is \"mulesing,\" but it is sometimes done without anesthesia and without treating the scars.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eIn New Zealand, such cruel mulesing (removal of the skin from the rump of lambs) has been completely banned by law since October 2018 under the Animal Welfare (Care and Procedures) Regulations 2018. Violators are subject to fines of up to NZ$3,000 for individuals and up to NZ$15,000 for businesses.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e *Current situation in Australia There are no laws banning mulesing nationwide in Australia, and the practice itself is still legal. However,\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e In Victoria, from 1 July 2020:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e In Tasmania, from 1 July 2024:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The use of painkillers (anesthetics and analgesics) when mulesing is legally required.\u003cbr\u003e Additionally, according to the National Wool Declaration (NWD), approximately 21.5% of the total wool will be declared as \"Non-Mulesed\" in the 2023\/24 season, and this proportion is increasing year by year.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e3.100% merino wool yet washable.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The fabric has undergone several shrinkage prevention processes to minimize shrinkage after washing.\u003cbr\u003e However, as it is a natural fiber, some shrinkage and warping will occur. Please refer to the care instructions below to ensure that you can use the product for a longer period of time.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e - When washing, use detergent for wool.\u003cbr\u003e - Turn the product inside out, place it in a laundry net and wash it alone.\u003cbr\u003e - Water temperature should be limited to 40°C, and washing with hot water should be avoided.\u003cbr\u003e - Avoid strong water currents when washing, and wash by hand or, if using a washing machine, use the \"dry cycle\" or \"weak cycle.\"\u003cbr\u003e - Never tumble dry.\u003cbr\u003e After dehydration, we recommend shaping the product and drying it in the shade. \u003cbr\u003e-If you will not be wearing the product for a long period of time, make sure to thoroughly clean it and store it with an insect repellent.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_heading\"\u003e Regarding skewing after washing\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp class=\"appsItemDetailCustomTag_description\"\u003e We've mentioned the advantages of the merino wool jersey used in the Merino Basic Tee above, but it also has some disadvantages. One of these is the tendency for the fabric to slant.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The fabric used for this product is a 60 count single yarn. Fluffy sheep's wool is twisted into yarn, which is then knitted into fabric.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e When washed, the twisted yarn fibers swell and tend to return to the opposite direction of the twist, causing some twisting. As a result, the side seams and underarm seams, which were straight before washing, may twist back and forth.
