Small but Reliable
The SNAP is a pouch that attaches to a backpack's shoulder harness.
The SNAP EXP is a special model that uses ALUULA Graflyte® as its main fabric.
THE EXPLORER'S SNAP
BUILT TO EXPLORE
This is the EXP series SNAP, which retains the ease of use of the SNAP but uses the next-generation fabric ALUULA Graflyte® as its main material.
MAIN FABRIC
ALUULA Graflyte® excels in waterproofing, abrasion resistance, and recyclability. It is extremely lightweight yet possesses excellent strength. Furthermore, it uses waterproof zippers, making it more waterproof than standard SNAP models. (The explanation images below show the standard model.)
Reliable Portability
SMART FORM
Its slim form, tailored to the width of a backpack's shoulder straps, does not impede movement while active.
G HOOK
The uniquely designed aluminum hook is easy to operate even with gloves on, with consideration given to opening and closing the gate.
Excellent Storage Capacity
MAIN POCKET
The main compartment can easily hold large smartphones, mobile batteries, wallets, compact cameras, and more. The internal organizer pocket makes it easy to sort small items.
MAIN POCKET
It can also store a 500ml PET bottle.
OUT POCKET
The exterior features a stretch mesh pocket, popular in the RUSH series. It can hold items you want to access quickly, such as sunglasses or a smartphone.
FASTENER STOPPER
The bottom of the zipper has a unique stopper designed to prevent the case from unexpectedly opening completely.
Speedy Attachment and Detachment
SNAP FLAP
The large flap-style Velcro allows for easy and speedy attachment and detachment to any bag.
SNAP FLAP
By sandwiching the chest strap, it can be securely fixed without shifting up or down.
ABOUT ALUULA
NEW TECHNOLOGY
ALUULA is a new material developed by ALUULA Inc. in Canada. A major feature is the process of fusing PE-based technical films and UHMW-PE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) fabrics without adhesives.
ALUULA Graflyte®
ALUULA Graflyte® is a high-performance fabric combining ultralight weight, excellent strength, exceptional tear resistance, extreme abrasion resistance, UV resistance, and water and gas impermeability.
A FIRST FOR JAPANESE OUTDOOR BRANDS
Paago Works quickly adopted this new material in the RUSH11R, confirming its functionality and superiority. Based on this experience, they decided to incorporate it into items like SWITCH and SNAP starting in 2025.
DESIGNER'S VOICE
This was a comment from outdoor writer Shotaro Takahashi while the SNAP was under development, looking at a prototype. It was a remark that determined the direction of the SNAP.
In the summer of 2018, the development of the SNAP, my first project as a designer, began.
Days of grappling with an unfamiliar sewing machine, bringing ideas to life, and repeatedly testing began.
I believed that waterproofing was essential for a pouch, an item meant to hold important things. To prevent water from entering the pouch even in sudden rain, I focused on waterproof performance using special fabrics and waterproof zippers, creating many prototypes. Before I knew it, over 20 prototypes had piled up on my desk.
When I showed one of those prototypes to Shotaro Takahashi, his response was the comment at the beginning.
I suddenly snapped back to reality. My focus on the pouch's waterproofing had resulted in a pouch with poor accessibility and low practicality.
"This won't do," I thought, and decided to rethink new ideas from scratch.
Instead of making the main body waterproof, why not simply remove it quickly if it starts to rain?
That's it! Let's create an accessible pouch with quick attach-and-detach functionality!
At that moment, my vision cleared, and I felt like I saw the goal.
To quickly attach and detach the pouch from a backpack, a new, unprecedented removal method needed to be developed.
It had to be easy to remove, yet firmly secured to the harness. I racked my brain over these conflicting requirements. The answer I finally arrived at was a flap called "SNAP FLAPS," which uses the shoulder harness as a stopper to secure the main body.
This flap made it possible to quickly attach the pouch without removing the backpack even while active, and to easily detach it and wear it after taking the pack off.
From drawing sketch lines to using the sewing machine, I received repeated critiques from Saito and remade prototypes, enhancing the SNAP's completeness as a tool. At the time of its release, I was worried whether it would be accepted by everyone, but I am delighted that it was so well-received that we had to place orders for additional production immediately upon launch.
Please use and abuse your SNAP with your favorite backpack in the field.
